Bhubaneswar: Many IAS officers are mentoring micro composting centers, where wet waste is reduced to compost, to ensure the city becomes free waste immediately.
The mentoring center of micro composting involves adopting and overseeing solid waste collection and processing.
It also involves the creation and sales of compost and regulates generation of income through marketing.
The mentor will suggest steps and visit facility physically.
Country capital has a long way to become garbage free when smaller such as mixed and Rourkela has achieved many things in this aspect.
Bhubaneswar only ranked 144 in Swachh Sarvekshan this year because of losing 1,200 marks for poor solid waste management.
Among the IAS officers who micro composting center mentors are housing and urban development secretaries G Mathivathan, Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) Commissioner Sanjay Kumar Singh, Director, City Administration, Sangramjit Nayak, and Sagarika Special Secretary H & UD.
There are other officers who have also adopted this facility.
While Mathivathan oversees three facilities in two different zones, Singh took two in the southeast zone.
