Washington: President Joe Biden meets Wednesday with CEO Walt Disney and Columbia Sportswear, and other business executives and leaders to discuss their recently announced vaccine needs for companies that employ at least 100 people.
The White House meeting came less than a week after Biden announced that the Labor Department tried to require business with 100 or more employees to order the worker to be fully vaccinated against Covid-19, or showed the results of negative tests at least every week.
About 100 million workers will submit to the requirements, Biden said.
The Labor Department tries to issue emergency rules to implement the mandate.
Biden announced a new mandate and several other steps last Thursday as part of a harder attempt by the administration to curb the Delta variant which jumped from Coronavirus, who was responsible for a sharp increase in US infections, hospitalization and death.
More than half, or 54%, from the US population has been fully vaccinated against Covid-19, data shows.
Announcing new steps last week, Biden sharply criticized tens of millions of people who remained not vaccinated, despite the fact that shots were free and widely available.
“We are patient.
But our patience is wearing thin, and your rejection has our cost of all, ” said Biden.
Biden business leaders and CEO meet with the Eisenhower Executive Office Building, part of the White House complex, both have placed vaccine requirements or Working to implement such rules, the White House said.
Some business groups, including the Bundar Business table, welcomed the presidential announcement, while several Republicans accused Biden beyond his authority and threatened to demand administration of vaccine mandates.
Many companies, including Amtrak, Microsoft, United Airlines and Walt Disney issued a vaccine mandate before the Biden announcement last week.
Also scheduled to attend the Biden meeting is a representative of the health insurance company, Philadelphia children’s hospital, children’s hospital, Walgreens Boots Alliance, homemade ice cream Molly Moon and Louisiana State University.
Josh Bolten, President And CEO of Business Roundtable, is also scheduled for present.
Roundtable represents more than 200 businesses that employ around 20 million people.
Last week it issued a statement to welcome the Biden announcement.
“American business leaders know how critical vaccination and testing in defeating a pandemic,” Bolten said in a statement.
