Washington: US President Joe Biden on Friday said the withdrawal of American troops from Afghanistan was “on track” but would not be finished in the next few days.
Speaking to reporters at the White House, Biden said that some US troops would still be in Afghanistan in September as part of “rational drawdown with our allies.” Biden in April arranged Deadine for resolving the withdrawal from the longest conflict of America as a commemoration of September 11, 2001, an attack by Al Qaeda in the United States who pushed the US-led Afghanistan invasion.
Biden’s comments came for hours after the last American forces left Bagram Air Field, who served as the main US military base in the country, leaving a piece of world trade center buried there two decades ago.
The departure of US-led troops, a fierce battle that has seen the Taliban face throughout the country and the jammed peace talks has triggered fears that Afghanistan was on track to all-out civil war which could restore the rebels.
Biden said he was worried that Ashraf Ghani’s beleagled president dealt with “internal problems” to “produce the type of support they need nationally.”
