WASHINGTON: US President Joe Biden and XI Jinping China opened a virtual summit Monday with attraction for better communication between superpowers and “fence fence” to avoid conflict.
Speaking of the White House to XI on the television screen, Biden said they had to develop a “fence fence” to “ensure that competition between our countries did not serve into the conflict, both intended or unwanted.” He said they would have a “honest” discussion.
Xi, talking from Beijing, called Biden “my old friend,” but said the rivals had to work closer.
“China and the United States need to improve communication and cooperation,” he said.
Both leaders have spoken by telephone twice since the inauguration of Biden in January but with XI refused to travel abroad because of a pandemic, online video meeting was the only choice of Summit directly.
White House spokesman Jen PSAKi said Biden would go to the top, it is expected to last several hours, “from the position of strength,” after months of rebuilding alliances with other democracies containing China.
The meeting was “the opportunity to establish competition requirements with China” and to demand leadership in Beijing “playing with road rules,” said PSAKI.
Most of the attention in the buildup to the meeting has focused on sparring over Taiwan, democracy in power itself claimed by China.
Biden’s maid has thrown a peak as an opportunity to help prevent increased tension.
Biden will “clarify that we want to build a general fence to avoid calculation errors,” a senior government official, spoke with anonymous terms, told reporters.
However, the White House tried to underestimate hope, with the saying that the Summit was “not a meeting where we expected results to come out.” Biden, a veteran of foreign policy problems over the decade in politics, often said telephone conversations were not a substitute for face-to-face meetings.
Xi has not left China for almost two years, and Biden sharply criticizes his absence to the COP26 climate summit recently at Glasgow and the G20 Summit in Rome.
The relationship between Superdowser dropped during the presidency of Donald Trump, who launched a trade war with China when attacking the Beijing response to an international investigation into the origin of Covid Pandemic in the city of China Wuhan.
Biden has rearranged the more extensive confrontation as a struggle between democracy and autocracy.
He got a boost on Monday when he signed the $ 1.2 trillion infrastructure package law, the largest of its kind in more than half a century.
Biden described the initiative as an important step in pursuing missions with years of intensive Chinese government investment, thus proving that democracy can compete.
“The world changes,” he said.
“We must be ready.” While the tone of the days was more measured than in the Trump era, Taiwan’s tensions threatened to increase into a dangerous new region.
China has increased military activities near Taiwan in recent years, with a record number of fighter aircraft that disrupted the island air defense zone in October.
The United States said it supports Taiwan’s self-defense but also ambiguous about whether it will intervene to help directly.
“Every relationship and support for the power of ‘Taiwan Independence’ undergrades peace in the Taiwan Strait and will only boomerang in the end,” The Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi told us the Secretary of the State Antony Blinken towards a telephone call to the weekend.
And the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday put Onus on Biden to improve relationships.
“We hope the US will work in the same direction as China to get along with each other,” Zhao Lijian Foreign Ministry spokesman told reporters.
The US Administrative Officer signaled Biden to be “very direct” about what he called “Chinese and provocative behavior and provocative in connection with Taiwan.” But the official also emphasized that the two countries had space for cooperation in various fields, such as climate change.
