Kolkata: Area Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation (BMC) includes Salt Lake and most of the Rajarhat witnessed a massive surge in one day in fresh Covid cases, with 172 new cases reported on Saturday, compared to 124 on Friday, Thursday and 23 Wednesday.
With this case Covid active reaches 502.
Civil officials say that the surge in new cases is expected to continue in the next few days because the trend shows.
The North Pargana district government is identifying new clusters in all districts, including Salt Lake, New Town and Rajarhat where some fresh Covid cases are reported, to regulate the fresh detention zone, in an effort to load a surge.
Covid cases active in the BMC area have dropped dramatically a few months ago when only 10 to 12 new cases every day reported.
The numbers only increased slightly after puja but new daily cases did not exceed 20 to 22.
With a sudden surge, the total Covid case in the BMC area since March 2020 has now passed 360 Covid deaths.
The number of active cases is around 502.
With BMC to go to the poll on January 22, civilian officials worried about a sudden surge in the case.
“When trends and predictions show, the numbers are expected to increase dramatically in the next few days.
The majority of people let their guard down over the past few weeks in participating in the Covid safety protocol,” said a citizenship official.
“Data is being collected in which specific clusters and regions report most cases of fresh covid.
The fresh detention zone will be announced in one or two days,” said a district official.
Previously, a Mandiri house in Salt Lake where several cases were reported, limited as a micro detention zone.
