Gandhinagar: Elevated two junior ministers to the cabinet ranking and confused three other lawmakers to the Council of Ministers, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had strengthened Gujarat representatives in his government ahead of the election of assembly of 2022 in the state.
The number of Gujarat Parliament members in the Modi government has now increased from four to seven, making this possible the biggest number in the United Cabinet in the State Political History.
Until now, two Gujarath MPS – Amit Shah and S Jaishankar (he RS MP from the country even though he was not from Gujarat) – was the minister of cabinet while Mansukh Mandaviya and Parshottam Rupala was the Minister of Junior.
On Wednesday, Mandaviya and Rupala were elevated to the cabinet ranked while three new faces – Darshana Jardosh, Mahendra Mujapara and Devusinh Chauhan – were appointed as Minister of Junior.
The cabinet reshuffle reflects efforts to achieve a balance between caste, community and regions in the state ahead of next year’s assembly election.
Mandaviya is the leader of Leuva Patel, Rupala from the Kadva Patel community (both of Saurashtra), Mahendra Munjara represents the OBC Koli Saurashtra community, Devusinh Chauhan Community Administration OBC Thakor Gujarat and Darshana Jardosh is a Brahmana from South Gujarat whose husband belongs to OBC.
A senior BJP leader said, “The country has not received a representation in the government union government since 1960.
Prime Minister and seven ministers in the Union Cabinet are now from Gujarat.”
