Madhepura: At least five children, including four girls, sank on the outskirts near the village of Monoharpur under the Chausa block in the Madhepura district on Thursday.
The victims were identified as Nisi (13), Laxmi Kumari (11), Krishna Kumar (12), Lalita (10) and Sunita (10), all the residents of Manoharpur Village.
Police sources say children go to the edge of the Rivulet to collect “Kush”, the holy grass used to do puja.
When children don’t return home even after four hours, their parents start looking for them.
The villagers saw hair floating a girl in Rivulet and brought the help of local divers fishing from five children from Rivulet.
Chausa Circle Officer Rakesh Kumar Singh and Sho Rabish Ranjan rushed to the village with the police team after getting information.
The police said Hildren might sink while bathing in Rivulet.
The body of all five children was sent for autopsy to a local hospital.
