PATNA: BJP state president Sanjay Jaiswal on Sunday raised question over the style of functioning of the state police, saying “instead of taking action against the guilty persons in the cases of communal conflict between the minorities and the scheduled castes, police always sent members of both warring communities to jail.” In a Facebook post, which created ripples in the state’s political circles because the BJP is the biggest ally in the four-party coalition government led by the JD(U)’s Nitish Kumar, Jaiswal also raised his serious concern over the recent spurt in the cases of attacks on Dalits by the members of minority community in different parts of Bihar.
Jaiswal, a three-time BJP’s Lok Sabha member from Pashchim Champaran constituency, in his post said, “Yesterday (on June 5) I received an information from Dhangarhwa village (near Ramgarhwa) that some members of minority communities have closed the pathway of Dalit community by raising a brick wall.
I spoke to the station house officer of Palanwa and the SHO along with the circle officer went to spot and resolved the dispute over the pathway.” “There is a remarkable rise in such types of incidents in the last few days.
It all began from Dhaka (a place in East Champaran district) where members of marriage processions of first Sahni community, then Nonia and Paswan communities, were not only thrashed but when they went to the police to seek help, cases were registered against the members of both warring communities and people from both the sides were sent to jail.
More than six such incidents were seen in Dhaka in the recent days, and in all cases, instead of taking action against the guilty persons, the members from both the communities were sent to the jail,” Jaiswal has written in his post.
“Such incidents have suddenly increased also in Purnia and Kishanganj districts.
Whatever incident of atrocities was committed on the Dalits at Baisi in Purnia district, the state government took cognizance and ensured justice to the Dalits,” the state BJP chief said.
Jaiswal further said, “There is a need for alertness by the administration everywhere.
The situation does not go beyond the control, whenever the peoples’ representatives resolve such issues by immediately taking cognizance of such disputes.
But when the district administration takes a one-sided stand and starts punishing even the innocent people, such an act sends a very wrong message in the society.” Reacting over Jaiswal’s Facebook post, the RJD spokesperson Mrityunjay Tiwari told TOI, “This time, the state president of the BJP has raised questions over the so-called good governance of CM Nitish Kumar.
Will the JD((U) leaders now chop off the arms of the BJP state president?” Tiwari was, in fact, referring to a recent controversial statement of the JD(U) spokesperson Sanjay Singh who had claimed that he would chop off the fingers of all those people who would dare to question the integrity, honesty and good governance of the Bihar CM Nitish Kumar.
“The way Jaiswal has exposed the functioning of police as well as the claim of good governance, the JDU) leader should now, as per his claim, cho-off the arms of the BJP state chief,” Tiwari told this newspaper.
