Patna: armed criminals looted more than Rs 39 lakh from the Cash Van after shooting a private keeper in front of Axis Bank near Brick Chowk in the district of Madhubani Bihar on Friday afternoon.
The dead guard was identified as Shivkumar Rai (56) from Pandaul.
He died when he was taken to Darbhanga Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) for treatment.
After the incident, Madhubani SP Satya Prakash and other senior police officers reached the investigation place.
SP asked police officers to seal the district border and raid and examine the vehicle to arrest criminals.
The incident was reported at around 1pm.
SP told Ti by telephone that at least three suspects had been taken by the police.
“Raids took place in several locations to arrest those involved in booty.
There are at least five criminals.
The incident was arrested on CCTV cameras,” he said.
Prakash said that the money was brought from the LIC office to the Axis Bank branch.
“The Cash Van staff will take money in the branch when criminals target vehicles.
They fired several rounds and fled after looting money,” he said.
Prakash also said that the guard was initially taken to Madhubani Hospital, aware of where he was referred to the DMCH could not survive.
A police officer said that at least five to six rounds were fired on the van from close range immediately after stopping and the staff and the guard opened the gate to go down.
“Some empty cartridges have also been confiscated from the place.
The guards were armed but he didn’t even get the chance to reply,” he said.
