Patna: Notes Late economist Shaibal Gupta and Acharya Chandanaji has been selected for the Padma Shri Award.
According to the list of Padma Awards, announced by the Ministry of Interior on Republic Day on Tuesday, Shaibal has been given to the award posthumously for his contribution in the field of literature and education.
Chandana Acharya has been selected for the award in the category of social work.
Padma awards conferred by the President of India at a ceremonial function held at Rashtrapati Bhawan usually around March-April every year.
Shaibal died on January 28 last year at the age of 67 after a prolonged illness.
Besides being a well-known social scientist, he was widely known as an institution builder.
Establishment of the Asian Development Research Institute (ADRI) in Patna is the most important achievement.
He is Director of the Center for Economic Policy and Public Finance, which has been established in Adri by the Government of Bihar as a special research center for public finances.
He also worked on various research projects at the Institute of Development Studies, Sussex; International Labor Organization; The World Bank and the London School of Economics.
Chandanaji Acharya, 84, was born in Maharashtra but spent most of his life in Bihar do social work.
Chandanaji Acharya, fondly called ‘Tai Maharaj’, has set up Veerayatan, a religious organization based on the principles of Jainism, in Rajgir in 1973.
He also became the first Jain woman who received the title of ‘Acharya’ in 1987.
Governor Phagu Chauhan And CM Nitish Kumar has expressed pleasure over the conferment of Padma Shri Awards and Acharya Chandanaji Shaibal.
In a statement, Nitish said he was pleased with the Shaibal honored with Padma Shri Award for her valuable contribution in the field of literature and education.
CM also congratulated Chandana Acharya.
