Patna: Unknown villain was shot dead by a betel nut trader in his sleep allegedly for the competition for the Pancrayat election in Kharatia Bazaar under the Mirganjan police station at around 3:30 a.m.
on Friday.
The deceased, Subhash Singh (62), has supported one Ramachankar Singh Chauhan in Pancrayat elections.
Chauhan was chosen as Mukhiya from Kharatia Panchayat on October 27 after beating Saheb Hussain, who had pressured traders on many occasions to campaign for him.
Miranj Police Station Sho Chhotan Kumar said Hussain was arrested for alleged involvement in murder.
“He is the main suspect in a murder case,” he said.
Kumar said Hussain wanted Singh to campaign in his support because of his influence in the village.
“They developed hostility on this problem and it increased after Hussain lost the election,” Sho said.
“Singh was shot several times when he fell asleep in front of his house.
He died in place.
His family members came out after hearing a shot,” Sho said.
In a separate incident, an unknown criminal shot the former MP MP member Raghunath Jha Naveen Chandra Jha (45) near her residence at Amba Ojha Teach under the Piprahi Police Station area in the Sheohar district on Thursday night.
Police said Jha was in a hurry to Patna where she was undergoing treatment at a private hospital.
The police said Jha had received two bullet injuries.
He came out of danger.
The Prima Facia police suspected the incident was the fall of political competition for the election of Panchayat.
They said two empty cartridges were restored from the place.
Further investigation is taking place.
