Patna: Uninsured vehicles involved in accidents on the road and death in the country will now be confiscated and auctioned to raise money to compensate for the victims.
The decision in this case was taken at the State Cabinet meeting on Friday and Rs 50 Crore was released for revolving funds under the Bihar motorized vehicle accident assistance scheme.
The confiscated vehicles will not be released until compensation is received.
The amendment has been carried out in this case in the rules of motorized vehicles Bihar, 1992 and a motorized vehicle accident Bihar claimed the rules of the court, 1961.
It will be held in the state of September 15.
Secretary of the Transport Department of Sanjay Kumar Agrawal said the decision was taken by the state government considering the command of the Supreme Court to make rules for payment of compensation to victims of road accidents and their relatives in the event of death.
He said after the court claims decision, if the vehicle owner did not deposit the amount of compensation within 30 days for victims or families of the victim, district officers would be allowed to obtain and auction vehicles.
“If the amount received from the vehicle auction is lacking, the remaining number will be given from the revolving state fund,” Agarwal said, adding to the case of death in an accident on the road, the victim’s family will get RS 5 Lakh as compensation, while inner injury, RS 50,000 provisions have been injured made for victims.
According to the Secretary of Transportation, around 5,000 people die every year in Bihar in an accident on the road while the number of people injured in an accident on the road is much higher.
At present, the State Disaster Management Department provides compensation for the victim’s family in the case of more than one death.
Under new provisions, the Department of Transportation will provide relief money even if there is a single death and injury in an accident on the road.
