Bihar: Toll Rises to 26 Hooch Poisoning Cases

Patna: At least 26 people – 10 in Gopalganj and 16 in the West Champaran district of dry Bihar – have been suspected of death because of the consumption of poisonous hooch from Wednesday to Friday night.
However, the official death toll was 23 at this time.

The initial dead victim in Gopalganj four was even reported by TOI but has now increased to 10 with six deaths that occur until Thursday night.
Gopalganj SP Anand Kumar told this newspaper that at all 18 people from several regions of the police station had been arrested until now involved in the supply chain of toxic liquor.
“Three of them are directly associated with the death of Hooch Mohammadpur,” he said.
He said that the Mohammadpur Sho police station and Mohammadpur Chowkidar Village had been suspended.
Appeal SP said it was made to people to advance for care without fear of any action.
When asked, the West Champaran DM Kundan Kumar while talking to TOI by telephone said overall nine deaths occurred since Thursday morning.
“Three more deaths took place on Friday morning to take victims toll victims to 12.
Some of them died in the course of hospital care.
Some are called PMCH but they are also killed,” said DM.
He said at least three medical teams with stored ambulary were deployed in the village affected.
“The villagers are being urged not to be afraid and come out for care if they feel sick and have consumed liquor.
The HR ranking officer has been deployed to the GMCH where sick people are treated,” he said.
DM said that no one was sick until now it became blind from the side effects of the consumption of poisonous hooca.
Kumar said that at least four people accused of Hooch’s death had been arrested until Friday morning and raids were underway.
Bettiah Sdpo beat Parimal Pandey said that at least 12 sick people and they were still undergoing treatment in different hospitals.
“At least two of the defendants who have prepared hooch, are among those who have died because they also consume HOOCH,” he said.
