New Delhi: The Double Devendra Jhjharia Paralympic gold medal on Tuesday said he was on the verge of stopping sports after his pet was released from the 2008 and 2012 edition but his wife convinced him to continue.
The 40-year-old Jhajharia won his first gold in the F-46 category in 2004 Athena Paralympics and then had to wait for another 12 years for the second yellow metal in 2016 Rio Games.
“When my event was not included in Paralympics 2008, I said it would be in 2016.
But when it was no longer there in 2012, I thought I would get out of sports.
This is 2013,” Jhajharia told Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the interaction Virtual.
“But my wife said I shouldn’t do it and can play until 2016.
So, I changed my plan and in 2013 I knew that my event would be in Paralympics Rio.
Then I started practicing in Gandhinagar and winning my second gold in Rio 2016 “His wife Manju was the former Kabaddi player national level.
Dropping or the introduction of an event in a particular Paralympic edition solely at the wisdom of the International Paralympics Committee.
Events (or classifications) that attract less participation in previous paralympics or other top competitions tend to be dropped.
The athletes are classified depending on the type and level of their disability.
The classification system allows athletes to compete with others with the same level of ability.
The F-46 classification is intended for athletes who have limbs that are affected by the limbs, interrupted muscle power or passive movement range disorders.
Jhajharia, who shot for a golden hat-trick in Tokyo Paralympics starting August 24, said he faced ridicule from people when he started sports.
“When I was nine years old, I lost my hand (due to electric shock).
It was a challenge to go outside my house.
When I pulled Javelin at my school, there was a ridicule that I had to handle.” People ask how I will throw Javelin, they told me that there was no place for me in sports, it was better to learn and try and get a good job.
“Then I decided that I would not be weak.
In my life I have learned that when there is a challenge in front of us then you almost achieve success.
So, I consider it a challenge.” I was dedicated to my sport.
I am very disciplined, I keep Javelin in the room where I sleep.
“The other Rio Paralympics gold medal Mariyappan ThangaveLu told PM that he would give the best in Tokyo.” I had an accident when I was little but I did.
Don’t let it block me.
My coach (Satyanarayana) has helped me a lot and I got a lot of support from the government, Sai and the Paralympic Committee.
I want to tell every athlete not to give up.
“Young player Badminton Palak Kohli, one hand did not develop well, narrated how the opportunity to meet with coach Gaurav Khanna changed his life.
Kohli has been practicing at the Gauravhan Academy in Lucknow.
Since 2019 and he can practice even during the loading forced by Coronavirus.” Paralympics Is the biggest stage for any athletes and I don’t think I will reach here very quickly.
But I hope I can prove that my disability can be calm.
