Bhubaneswar / Jharsuguda: Senior BJD MLA and former Odisha speaker, Kishore Kumar Mohanty, died of a heart attack in his home city in Jharsuguda on Thursday night.
He was 63.
Family members said Mohanty, who also became President of the Jharsuguda BJD unit, complained of chest pain in his office and was immediately rushed to the nearest hospital at Mangal Bazaar.
The doctor there said he had a massive heart stop and could not turn it on despite their best efforts.
Popular politicians in West Odisha, Mohanty represents the assembly chair of Brajarajnagar in the Assembly.
Previously, he was chosen as three times from Jharsuguda.
Having his political career as a council member in 1984, Mohanty was first chosen as MLA on Janata Dal tickets from Jharsuguda in 1990 and worked as a colleague near Bijue Patnik.
He was re-elected from the same seats on BJD tickets in 2000 and 2004.
Mohanty was a speaker at the BJP-BJD coalition government for around the year in 2008-2009 and the head of the Government Whip from 2004 to 2008.
Veteran politician was also a member of Rajya Sabha from 2009 Until 2012 and the Chairperson of the West Odisha Development Board from 2014 to 2019.Bovernor Ganeshi Lal and leaders who cut political lines expressed sadness over Mohanty’s death and offered their families to their families.
Naveen Patnaik said Mohanty enjoyed popularity throughout the political spectrum.
“As a speaker, he has set high standards of democratic norms and ordered in connection with the political spectrum,” said Naveen.
