Kendrapada / Bhubaneswar: BJD Rajya Sabha Subash Singh members on Sunday demanded the geographical indication tag (GI) for Kendrapada’s Rasabali, a sweet popular delicacy.
Singh, along with two other RS members Munna Khan and Mamata Mahanta, met Union Commerce and Minister of Industry and Pikush Food Goyal in New Delhi and filed a memorandum in this matter.
The BJD parliament demands the initiation of the steps to give the GI tag to Kendrapada Rasabali.
Rasabali came from the famous Baladevjew temple more than 400 years ago.
It consists of average slim reddish bread soaked in thickened and sweet milk.
Many people in this district are looking for their livelihood by selling Rasabali.
Singh said the status of the GI would help Rasabali had a different identity because no one would be able to abuse that name to market similar candies, “Rasabali Kendrapada is one of the most delicious candies in this country.
