Aurangabad: BJP and Aimim opposition has opposed the Maharashtra government’s decision to establish the first international Sports University in Pune, and demanded that it was established in Aurangabad to develop the facility in the Marathwada region.
The BJP delegation, which consists of MLA Atul Local Save and State Spokesperson Shirish Boralkar, submitted a memorandum at their request to the Aurangabad Collector Sunil Chavan on Wednesday.
According to memorandum, sports universities were proposed to be established in Aurangabad by the state government of the previous Devendra Fadnivis.
But, the Government of Maha Vikas Aghadi at this time (consisting of Shiv Sena, NCP and Congress) divert the institutions proposed to Pune.
There are already enough sports facilities at the Balewadi Sports Complex in Pune, but there are no facilities like that in Marathwada, BJP said.
Therefore, the demand for sports universities here makes sense and must be fulfilled by the state government, or “we will agitate”, said the party in a memorandum.
All India Majlis-e-Itehad-Ul-Muslimeen (AIMIM) also filed a memorandum at the Office of the Aurangabad Division Commissioner on Tuesday with the same request.
The proposed university shifted to Pune for “political intentions”, which led to anger among the sportsmen here, the party claimed to be in a memorandum.
