New Delhi: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday released a list of first 34 candidates for the election of the assembly of Punjab.
The National BJP Secretary General, Tarun Chugh while announcing the list said that the list had doctors, lawyers, sportsmen, farmers, youth, women and former IAS officers.
“Of the 34 candidates in the first list, 12 came from a farmer family, 8 of the caste categories scheduled and 13 came from the Sikh community,” he said.
These names including former Minister of ManoRanjan Kalia, Rana Gurmet Singh Sodhi, a sitting MLA who stopped from Congress to join the recent party, Arvind Khanna and Kanwarveer Singh Tohra, grand grandchildren Akali Singh Tohra.
Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri during the announcement slams the Government of Congress in Punjab and said countries are the pride of the nation but many things have deteriorated there.
BJP fights with a poll in the alliance with the former Chief Minister Amarinder Singh Punjab Lok Congress and Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa Sad (Sanyukt).
Voting in the state will occur in one phase on February 20 and the results will come out on March 10.
