MARGAO: Shortly after being announced chairperson of Margao Municipal Council (MMC), Lyndon Pereira of Goa Forward Party (GFP) on Thursday coached his guns in the BJP administration, accusing it of not being supportive enough to the Margao municipality’s efforts in handling the Covid-19 pandemic.
Comparable to MMC’s suggestion of establishing two Covid centers in town — a concept mooted from GFP – Pereira explained the proposal was grounded because of lack of assistance by the state authorities.
“The BJP government isn’t supporting us.
We are in need of physicians and nurses for working Covid care centers.
Had the authorities supported uswe might have opened the centers,” Pereira said while talking to reporters.
He said he would follow up with the authorities on the proposition.
He explained that although the authorities encouraged similar initiatives from the neighbouring cities of Colva and Benaulim, it cold-shouldered that the Margao municipality’s proposal.
“Margao is a industrial town and we’ve got the maximum quantity of Covid positive instances here.
What is the use of owning a government when we do not get its service?” Pereira explained.
Before, Pereira was declared elected as chairperson of this Margao civic figure in the particular meeting held on Thursday.
Dipali Sawal who got chosen on Margao MLA Digambar Kamat’s Model Margao panel was first chosen because the vice-chairperson.
Both were elected unopposed because BJP chosen to not contest both leading civic articles.
