New Delhi: Delegation of the BJP leaders from Punjab met Prime Minister Narendra Modi here on Sunday with a request that the Kartarpur corridor reopened before Gurpurab.
Corridor Kartarpur provides a visa border crossing for pilgrims from India to visit Kartarpur Sahib Gurdwara in Pakistan.
This connects Sahib Gurdwara Kartarpur, the final resting place for the founder of Teacher Nanak Dev, to the Temple of Dera Baba Nanak in the Gurdaspur district in India.
Pilgrimage to Kartarpur Sahib Gurdwara was suspended in March 2020 because of the Covid-19 outbreak.
The delegation consisting of 11 leaders from Punjab met Modi at his official residence and delivered the sentiment of Teacher Devers Dev, the BJP Punjab unit of President Ashwani Sharma told PTI.
“We have asked the Prime Minister of Modi to reopen the Kartarpur corridor before Gurupurab who will be celebrated before November 19.
And after meeting him, we hope it will soon be opened,” Sharma said, adding that the prime minister had convinced them that he would see their request.
Gurpurab, which marked the warning of the birth of Teacher Nanak, will be celebrated on November 19 this year.
The National BJP Secretary General of Tarun Chugh, who is also part of the delegation, said the party leaders from Punjab also thanked Modi for taking landmark initiatives for the welfare of the Punjab and Sikh community.
Vice President of BJP Sudan Singh, Secretary General and Punjab Dushyant Gautam, National Secretary of Narienda Singh, spokesman for R P Singh Khalsa, and the leader of the Teenager’s wing of Tejo Bagga was present at the meeting.
