Kolkata: The day after the leader of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) was shot dead at his home in the North Bengal West Dinajpur district, other BJP leaders had been hacked to death in Bhagwanpur in East Midnapore Regency.
While BJP holds the Trinamool Congress responsible for the murder, the ruling party has denied the allegations.
The incident took place on Saturday night when Shambhu Maitar (36), the Head of Shakti Kendra BJP in the Constituency Area of the Chandipur Assembly, was taken from the side of the road and hacked to death.
His body recovered from the banks of the Keleghai River on Sunday morning.
According to the local community, some unknown people forced Maiti to motorbikes and escaped.
On Sunday morning, they saw Maiti’s body lying on the banks of the river and told the police.
According to the police, there was a sharp cut sign throughout Maiti’s body.
“We have sent the body to autopsy and is waiting for a report.
After the report arrives, we will be able to ensure the right time and cause of death,” said a senior district police officer.
BJP has blamed the Trinamool Congress for the incident, allegating that Maiti was killed for uncovering the ruling party corruption.
The local leadership of the Trinamool Congress has denied the allegations, claiming that the incident was the result of BJP’s internal disputes.
“Trinamool is not involved in the incident in any way,” said a local leader.
On October 17, Mithun Ghosh (37), Deputy President of the BJP Youth Wing Regency, was shot dead in the region in the North Dinajpur District.
Ghosh was shot at by some unknown criminals right in front of his residence in Rajgram Village.
Even though he was rushed to College Medical College Raiganj, the doctors stated he was taken dead.
