Mumbai: Battle for polls Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is scheduled to be held in the next few months just heating up.
After the Minister of Cabinet of State and Congress Mla Aslam Shaikh of the Malwani constituency inaugurated the land changed in the Maladen with facilities such as badminton courts, volleyball fields, and open gymnasiums with a board called the Sultan Sports Complex, BJP came out with malignant opposing the same thing.
Shaikh has prepared facilities using MLA funds.
BJP members said that the deception of the Sultan pampered himself in Hindu killings, destroying temples among other atrocities and therefore, the invalid name board on open public land would not be tolerated.
BJP Corporator and spokesman, Bhalchandra Shirsat, said that if there was no name that was officially given to the land either by BMC or the government, there was a question mark why Shaikh used at all when inaugurating the changed space.
Shiv Sena, currently ruling BMC, said that there were no official proposals in the Civic Agency who had agreed to such a name for land and that BJP did not need to make this communal problem.
The Mayor of Kishori Pednekar also said that in 2013, BJP Mla Ameet Satam had provided support to refer to the road in the neighborhood after Sultan’s deception was opposed by Satam who said that there was damage to official civil documents.
Pednekar said that they wanted the reason for being named after Rani from Jhansi.
Satam, in turn, threatened to file a police complaint against the pedestal because it damaged the civil records to intentionally add his name stating that he never supported the proposal.
When Tii contacted Shaikh, he said that the land had been referred to as the playground of Sultan Shaheed Tipu since many years.
Shaikh also showed the official documentation of the state government and also the MMRDA authority which mentioned it as Shaheed Tipu Sultan Playground.
“It is clear that BJP is trying to pamper oneself in such actions in front of the upcoming BMC poll.
If they have a problem with the name of the playground, they should oppose the name in the past when it appears in all official documents,” Shaikh said.
