BJP will not allow anyone to build a dam: Annamalai

Thanjavur: Tamil Nadu BJP Unit will continue to oppose everyone in Karnataka for the construction of the dam proposed across the Cauvery River in Mekedatu, said the K Annamalai Party State President on Thursday.
“The government of the Congress, which later in Karnataka has proposed to build a Dam and the Government (BJP) today will also advance with the proposal.
We oppose everyone when we oppose the construction of Dam.
BJP Tamil Nadu will never allow anyone to build a dam,” said Annamalai, launching a hunger strike held by a party along with more than 500 cadres and farmers near the panagal building here.
Annamalai and officials reached the venue on the bull train in the procession of the statue of Rajaraja Chozhan.
Overcoming reporters after the demonstration, he quoted the guarantee given by the Union Jal Minister Shakti Gajendra Singh Shekhawat that the central government would not give a nod to Karnataka to build a dam.
He said the construction of the dam would not be possible because the River Interstate water dispute acted 1956 clearly stated that the dam could not be built without the permission of the state where river water flowed.
He quoted the statement of the Cauvery Water Management Authority (CWMA) that the dam could not be built in Mekedatu.
“However, we are protesting without violence to make Tamil Nadu farmers believe that the MOD government at the center revolves around the welfare of the agricultural community,” he said.
Because BJP did not get permission for strikes, they had to end up in a few hours.
In TNCC, DMK and MNM criticized their hunger strike, Annamalai said no party had a Locus standard to criticize BJP over Mekedatu.
He said DMK “did not know about agriculture”.
“We will never allow a political party to play our farmers,” he added.
