Noida/Ghaziabad: The number of mucormycosis (black fungus) cases are going down in Noida and Ghaziabad, as per official figures.
The state government, meanwhile, has increased the quota of amphotericin B injections — an anti-fungal drug to treat the infection — for both districts.
In Noida, neither new black fungus cases nor deaths due to the infection have been reported in the past week.
As per official data, a total of 94 cases have been reported from five hospitals across Noida.
Of them, 21 are still active while four have succumbed to the infection.
The remaining patients have either been discharged or referred to other hospitals in Delhi.
The last black fungus case was reported on Sunday after nearly a week of no new cases.
In Ghaziabad, one person has succumbed to the injection while there have been a few new cases as well.
Ghaziabad’s additional chief medical officer Dr Sunil Tyagi said 91 patients of black fungus have been reported in the district so far.
Of these, 32 patients require injections and 18 patients are admitted to five hospitals across the district.
Overall, 10 patients have also succumbed to the infection in Ghaziabad.
As for the quota for Amphotericin B injections, from an earlier supply of 75 doses per day, the number has gone up to around 125 now.
Officials in Noida said that they are also getting more vials if required, depending upon requests from patients.
Those who were earlier given only two doses irrespective of their requirement are now getting more.
Last week, TOI had highlighted the supply shortage in the cities.
An official in Noida said, “We are getting more doses than before as the allocation has increased.
Today (Monday), we got 132 doses, including 42 for patients in GIMS.” One of the major reasons for the short supply in Ghaziabad was an incomplete list of black fungus patients being sent from the district, officials said.
Now, the health department is sending the complete list of patients who are undergoing treatment through OPDs and those admitted to hospitals.
Earlier, the district was submitting a list of admitted patients only.
On Monday, patients who reached the CMO office were given three to four injections, based on their requirements.
Officials said that the health department is also enquiring about patients’ health from their doctors.
Many patients do not require injections and their conditions can be controlled through tablets and other anti-fungal medicines also.
