Black Mushrooms: New Onset Diabetes in Covid’s Biggest Risk Factors

Ahmedabad: Diabetes is an undisputed risk factor, most significantly for deadly muworkosis that affects Covid-19 patients in a deadly second wave.
Temporary analysis of local case control studies of black mushrooms has now revealed that the onset of new diabetes was found as a risk factor that was far more significant than the existing diabetes! A study of 300 subjects, which included 234 Covid-19 and 64 patients with mucrorition patients with Covid-19 history, carried out at Sterling Hospital Post Second Wave to understand risk factors for mucatorcosis in Covid-19 patients.
“The biggest interim takeaway point of this study is that patients where diabetes opened up as long as Covid-19 disease has a much higher probability of getting black fungi than patients who have a known history of diabetes,” Dr.
Atul Patel’s infectious disease specialist.
He is a member of the Gujarat Covid-19 task force and one of the 30 global recommendations for the treatment of mukormycosis.
Experts said that nearly 25% of Covid-19 patients were detected with new onset diabetes in the state.
This includes Induction Diabetes Covid-19 triggered by pancreatic inflammation, stress, treatment of severe steroids or diabetes which is not known to be detected during pandemic disease.
“Other important findings expressed by temporary analysis including steroids, tovilizumab and even oxygen are not significant risk factors,” said Dr.
Patel.
Dr.
Patel said the probability of new onset diabetes for black mushrooms was found less than 0.001 while diabetes was less than 0.156.
Here, lower probability value means a higher risk factor.
In fact, p values lower than 0.05 are considered significant.
“New Onset Diabetes in Covid-19 as a current risk factor will be studied at 1,000 mm patients at 29 centers throughout India to provide better prevention, intervention and care guidance for future cases especially during pandemics,” said Dr.
Patel , This finding is important because it is estimated that 25% of black fungal patients have a history of new onset diabetes during Covid-19.
Dr.
Bela Prajapati, Professor and Head of the ENT Department in Civil Hospital, said 819 Musyrcosis patients treated in the past two months, 192 or 23% recorded no history of previous diabetes.
“These patients gain blood sugar after their Covid-19 infection,” he said.
Likewise, in the Civil Hospital Sola, a patient figure like that is around 25-30%, Dr.
Nena Bhalodia said, the Head of the ENT Department.
“After the second wave of pandemic, some young patients who have tested diabetes.
Covid-19 and his care may be responsible as steroids used in the treatment of spiked blood sugar,” he said.
Dr.
Neeraj Suri, an ENT surgeon in Gandhinagar Civil Hospital, said that not all patients tested diabetes after Covid-19 had a mukormycosis.
“Fungal infections are a number of factors including age, severity, and comorbidity, among others, some patients do not even suffer from diabetes even because they recover from Covid.
But the presence of blood sugar must have played a big role in the prevalence of fungal infections that feed sugar,” he said.

“Of the total, 192 or 23% of patients in such a way that there was no history of previous diabetes.

“After the second wave of pandemic, we saw several young patients who had tested diabetes.
Covid treatment is partly responsible as a steroid used in the treatment of barbed blood sugar,” he said.

Dr.
Rajesh Vishwakarma, an ENTS surgeon based in the city, said that not all mukormycotic patients have diabetes only after Covid-19.
“It is also possible that patients may have diabetes boundaries that are exacerbated because of Covid-19 and detected as part of a medical report,” he said.
