Chennai: The Tamil Nadu government will establish a research laboratory to study the use of chemicals in Firecracker’s manufacturing unit with the aim of preventing the accident, the Minister of Labor C V Ganesan told the Assembly on Tuesday.
The minister said the department has formed a committee under a civilized district collection to monitor the cracker unit to ensure labor security.
The minister replied to Sivakasi MLA G Ashokan who talked about the problems faced by this industry.
MLA urged the government to get exceptions to the firecrackers of restrictions, as did in the case of Jallikattu, to ensure the livelihood of eight lakh families.
This industry has suffered over the past few years.
Demonnetization, GST and Pandemic Covid-19 had worsened the situation, said Sivakasi MLA and appealed to the Government of Rs 5,000 Crore for this sector.
The government must also come with a long-term and short-term mission to revive this sector.
No exports occurred since 1997 due to difficulties in obtaining certificates without objections from Sri Lanka and Singapore.
He appealed to the state government to facilitate the industry to get the NOC to revive his lost business.
“If done, the industry can export 2,000 containers (crackers) and it will help 10 lakh families get livelihoods,” he said.
Private hospitals can save the lives of workers, which supports up to 52% of burns (fire accidents in the industry).
However, government hospitals cannot save workers who experience 18% to 22% of burns, said MLA, and appeal to the state government to build fuel facilities and special skin banks in government hospitals in Sivakasi.
“We will also take steps to improve facilities and appoint a doctor and paramedic staff at ESI Hospital,” said Minister while responding to a request to appoint a doctor at Hospital ESI.
