Amritsar / Chandigarh: A grenade explosion near the army from the 2016 Airbase attack in the border city.
There were no casualties reported in the explosion in front of Dwar Triveni from the Cantt area, police officers said on Monday.
“This is a terrorist act.
CCTV footage is being analyzed,” said Pathankot SSP Surendra Lamba.
According to the police, a guard told the grenade exploded immediately after the bike passed around 9pm.
Deputy Punjab CM Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa held a meeting with senior police officers and issued a strict order to increase the night patrol by reducing at least a third of the officers managed in each roster.
He said he had arrived at his notice that an adequate police patrol was not done at night.
Sunday’s explosion puts a focus on the state susceptibility to terrorist attacks.
Jaish-e-Mohammed (JEM) attacked Pathankot Airbase on January 2, 2016, and a shootout ended with the death of four Pakistani-based terrorists, seven security personnel and civilians.
