WASHINGTON: US Secretary Antony Blinken and External Minister Jaishankar discussed a chaotic situation in Afghanistan for the second time this week and agreed to continue their close coordination.
Taliban rebels controlled Afghanistan on Sunday.
Their sudden victory, who came when the US withdrew from the country after the 20-year-old brutal war, had triggered chaos at Kabul airport, from which America and allied countries were trying to safely evacuate thousands of residents and their allies.
India on Tuesday hurried back to its ambassador’s house Rudrendra Tandon and staff from the embassy in Kabul on a military transport aircraft.
Blinken spoke with Jaishankar by telephone on Thursday to discuss the situation in Afghanistan, said the Ned Price Department Department spokesman.
“Secretary of Blinken and Minister Jaishankar discussed Afghanistan and agreed to sustainable coordination,” said the price in reading the call.
“Productive calls with @DrsJaiShankar today (Thursday) about Afghanistan.
We agreed to continue our coordination near us,” Blinken Tweet after the call.
Blinken and Jaisankar last spoke on Monday and discussed the situation in a torn country conflict.
During their call, Jaisankar “underlined the urgency to restore airport operations in Kabul.” The main challenge for traveling to and from Afghanistan is the operational status of Kabul airport.
On Thursday, Jaishankar said that India worked with international partners, especially the US, in bringing Indian citizens who were stranded home from Afghanistan.
Jaisankar said this while discussing reporters at the UN Security Council itself after leading the safety council’s direction of ‘threats to peace and international security caused by terrorist laws’, held under India.
Presidency of the current council.
Responding to a question, he said about the problem “where we continued now” with the Taliban who took control in Afghanistan, he said: “The direct problem we see is truly a repatriation of our citizens.
In the case of India, Indian citizens, countries Other countries have their worries “.” We work with international partners in this regard, especially the US, because they control the airport (Kabul), “Jaishankar said.
The Indian government is committed to a safe return of all Indian citizens and will institutionalize flight arrangements as the Kabul airport is open for commercial operations, the external ministry said on Tuesday in New Delhi.
