Doha: US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs worked with the Taliban to facilitate additional charter flights from Kabul for people who tried to leave Afghanistan after American military and diplomatic departures.
Blinken spoke on Tuesday at a press conference along with Diplomats and Qatar defense officials.
He said the U.S.
Has come into contact with the Taliban “in the last few hours” to work on arrangements for additional charter flights from the Afghan capital.
Blinken said the Taliban had provided safe commandment for all who tried to leave Afghanistan with the right travel documents.
He said the United States would hold the Taliban for that promise.
Blinken said the United States believed there was “somewhere around 100” Americans were still in Afghanistan who wanted to leave.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has previously placed the estimation between 100 and 200.
US defense and defense Secretary Lloyd Austin was in Qatar to thank the Arabian Bay for his assistance with transit tens of thousands of people evacuated from Afghanistan after the Taliban took control of Kabul on August 15.
