Blinken urges the country to hold Taliban accountability about counterterrorism

WASHINGTON: US Secretary of State Antony J Blinken urges countries to unite in conducting the Taliban responsible for the problem of counterterrorism and mitigating the potential of the humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan.
Blinken’s statement came during a bilateral meeting in Afghanistan which was guided by German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas with allies and partners including India.
“Blinken Secretary urged the unity in mitigating the crisis of potential humanity and holding the Taliban responsible for counterterrorism, to enable a safe passage for foreign nationals and Afghanistan who want to go,” a statement from the US State Department.
Blinken also said that the government formed by the Taliban must respect the basic rights of Afghanistan.
“The United States will continue to use economic, diplomatic and political instruments to support the rights of the people of Afghanistan, especially women and women, and to ensure that Afghanistan is not a safe place for terrorism,” said the statement.
Allies and other partners who attend the Minister’s Meeting are representatives of Germany, Australia, Bahrain, Canada, France, Italy, Japan, Kuwait, Norway, Pakistan, Qatar, Republic of Korea, Saudi Arabia, Spain, Tajikistan, Turkey, Turkmenistan, United Arab Emirates, England, Uzbekistan, EU, NATO, and the United Nations.
Meanwhile, the participants also agreed to remain united in their eternal support for Afghan people.
Previously, Blinken also stated that the trajectory of his country’s relationship with the Taliban and support to the group would completely depend on what he did, not only to what he said.
