Coimbatore: The Ministry of Health Public has formed block-level teams to monitor fever cases and oversee preventive measures taken in all districts.
Continuous rain for the past few days has increased the possibility of spreading infectious diseases.
Every team consists of two medical officers, one nurse, two health inspectors and two sanitation workers have been instructed to make field visits to places throughout the district where the fever cases are reported.
Fever and dysentery are general symptoms of infectious diseases and direct medical attention is needed in such cases.
“People are asked to drink boiled water, keep their environment clean and wash their hands,” said P Aruna, Deputy Director of Health Services, Coimbatore.
To prevent infectious diseases, wash hands after returning home and after using the toilet suggested.
Diseases transmitted through vectors are caused by animals and flies after they come into contact with decaying food and garbage.
“So, garbage should not be made to accumulate around the house,” he added.
While the rain is expected to continue for the next few weeks, people have been asked to ensure rainwater does not stagnate around their house because it might be a breeding place for dengue mosquitoes.
