Silchar: Local residents held a road blockade on the 306 national highway connecting Silchar with Aizawl in Kabuganj on Tuesday as a protest against the murder of five security personnel in the attack by Mizos in Lilapur on Monday.
Mizoram remains disconnected due to a blockade, because national highways are considered the lifeline of the northeastern state.
Blockade, the possibility of continuing throughout the night, will turn into an unlimited one from Wednesday morning, the protesters said.
On Tuesday morning, residents came out on the streets and blocked Jalan Silchar-Aizawl in Kabuganj, about 20 km from Silchar, demanding firm action against those involved in the attack.
The demonstrators condemned the attack by Mizos and appealed to the government for the steps needed to ensure the protection of land and safety of people living throughout the border region between countries.
They were also breathed because of the firm penalty for all the culprites involved in the attack on Assam officials.
Hundreds of vehicles remained stranded on both sides of a busy highway because of the blockade.
There is a strong security setting in a blockade view.
However, there were no undesirable incidents reported, said a senior police officer.
Social Activists Jabir Hussain Laskar said people in border and village cities will also launch an unlimited ‘economic blockade’ from Wednesday and urged the Assam government to take steps to resolve limit disputes.
The Democrat Barak Front is also called Bandh Barak Valley 12 hours on Wednesday, Head of Head of BDF Pradip Dutta Roy said.
