Bengaluru: Of the 333 cases of omicron in the state, 305 (almost 92%) came from Bengaluru, in accordance with the health and family welfare department.
Of the 305 cases in Bengaluru, 33 patients have recovered, 95 in institutional isolation and 577 in home insulation.
Across the country, 60 people (18%) have recovered, 178 are in home insulation and 95 in institutional isolation.
There was no death because Omicron had been reported in the state, the departmentalities said, added that all patients did not show symptoms.
After Bengaluru, most cases came from Dakshina Kannada (9), followed by Dharwad (3) and Bengaluru Urban and Udupi (2 each).
Beleagavi, Davanagere, MySuru and Shivamogga have reported one case respectively.
Eight Omicron patients traced in Karnataka came from other states, who had been notified.
In all Omicron cases, the upper respiratory infection is visible and not lung involvement.
The first two cases of Omicron in India were reported from Bengaluru on December 2, 2021.
While one patient traveled from South Africa, the other was a doctor from the city without the history of the trip.
“Of the 333 Omicron cases in the state, 198 have history of international travel and 77 domestic,” said D Randeep, the Department of Welfare Commissioner, Health and Work.
In the remaining 58 cases, no travel history was visible.
However, experts say it is not only the case of Omicron reported but the Delta variant also exists.
Dr.
Pradeep Rangappa, a critical care specialist and members of the Covid State critical support team, said Delta could not be ignored.
“Not all samples are sent for genome sequencing.
Although the rapid increase in the number of carnataka can cause the assumption that it is because Omicron, Delta also circulated.
There are patients received for moderate diseases, even though there is no increase in ICU receipts,” he said.
In accordance with the genome sequence data, 4,945 samples have been sorted, where 59% are found from Delta variants and 27% of delta sub-genres.
The data accessed by Stoi shows 7% of the sorted samples have been detected as Omicron.
“The percentage of omicron share vis-a-vis delta in the sorted batch sample has increased with each consecutive batch.
But among the overall strains sorted, delta remains higher,” he said.
