B’luru: Corpn uses Geotags to monitor 10L home construction

Bengaluru: Housing projects often suffer because of a weak monitoring system.
The challenge was even bigger when it was about tracking building 10 lakh houses.
To overcome this problem, Rajiv Gandhi Housing Corporation (RGHC), nodal agent for the construction of an affordable house, has emerged with a cellular application and control room to monitor all its constructive activities.
“We can monitor our projects in real-time using simple cellular technology – geographical tags (geotagging) using photos and videos of houses being built,” said Secretary of the Manoj Kumar Meena housing department.
RGHC currently monitors 10 housing construction in 27,000 villages and 279 urban local agencies.
The center has taken a signal and applies a similar system throughout the country.
The geotagging method has also been registered as one of the 20 best practices in all government departments by the State Planning and Statistics Department to motivate others to use technology.
How to work under this system, every geographic construction site before the work starts.
Furthermore, local Panchayat development officers checked them for physical verification and uploaded images in real-time in the Indira Mane mobile app.
This is done at each stage of construction so that the beneficiaries can claim subsidies.
“Without images marked geographically, both the country, and the center releases the amount of subsidies,” said Managing Director of RGHCL S Basavaraju.
On average, this application allows uploading 7,000-10,000 images every day.
Subsidized final disburses are carried out through direct benefit transfers (DBT), which are related to Aadhaar.
The Call Center Center requires the housing department to launch a call center called Spandana, where it receives nearly 2,000 requests every day to register various complaints, including delays in the release of funds.
The state government in the entire audit scheme has found that the system has caused 50,000-70,000 beneficiaries after receiving their subsidy every week through direct bank transfers.
