BENGALURU: A few in Whitefield lately dropped Rs 16.7 lakh into cybercrooks while attempting to find a role to their small son at a commercial.
Suresh (name changed), an applications engineer, advised police the suspects -Dr Rishi Kapoor aka Apurva Ashwin and Janice-lured him by promising to make his child a movie star and version.
Ashwin contacted him November 2020 by telephone, asserting that he conducted a notary service.
Ashwin promised Suresh and his spouse he would obtain their kid a part in a business associated with some biscuit merchandise.
Ashwin delivered an invitation through WhatsApp and asked the few to take a movie of the son and discuss it with him.
Believing him genuine, the couple shared with the movie along with Ashwin’s agency verified the kid was chosen for its commercial.
Rs 1.4 lakh enrollment feeLater, as requested by Janice, the few moved Rs 1.4 lakh as enrollment fee.
The couple obtained a welcome message in Ashwin on November 29, 2020 following the cash transfer.
“The duo afterwards sent us a verification regarding the cash transfer.
They left WhatsApp calls to talk about photoshoots, designer clothing, accessories and other expenses.
We moved Rs 16,69,400 in most for their bank account.
However, Ashwin or his bureau neither left any commercial together with my kid nor returned our cash,” Suresh alleged.
Realising he was cheated, Suresh registered a complaint using Whitefield CEN authorities on Friday.
The suspects are reserved under IPC sections 419 (punishment for adulterous from personation), 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property) and sections 66(C), 66(D) of Information Technology Act-2000.
Janice was called the primary accused.
Authorities have launched a manhunt for the suspects with the support of a cell number employed by them to speak to the victims.
They also have gathered details of the accounts to the bunch transferred the cash.
