B’luru: Covid, Mishap Family Push Boy to the Brink

Bengaluru: For Rahul D, a 14-year-old boy who has been lying in bed from birth with cerebral palsy and related diseases, early 2022 has been painful.
His family, who spent more than Rs 15 lakh since his birth at treatment, now staring at the cost of more than Rs 1 lakh to help him get better.
Dalpath, Rahul’s father who was a helper at a ration shop at Electronics City, told Ti that Rahul had traveled with his mother to their village near Palanpur earlier this month.
“On the way back, the lifting relatives might hurt his feet.
We must know about injury just 10 days ago when there was severe swelling on his right leg,” Dalpath said, adding that Rahul couldn’t even reveal or communicate what he experienced.
After visiting the hospital near Jigani, the family was surprised to learn that the feet of Rahul were cracked and the operation needed to fit the stick on his feet.
It is estimated that the cost of RS 1.1 Lakh.
“The doctors told us his leg was very weak and would need a stick to sustain a little heavy he had,” said Dalpath.
He explained that he produced a little 10,000 Rs a month while his wife was a housewife who spent every hour of waking up to care for Rahul.
“Pandemic makes everything worse for us.
The shops are closed and I live in fear constantly losing my job,” Dalpath said.
Rahul also suffered from epilepsy.
Dalpath said the family was forced to sell his shop in Electronics City to support the care of the boy five years ago.
“My younger child, Himanshu, is 10 years old and is a bright student.
But I don’t have resources or energy to support it now.
I hope to get help for Himanshu’s operation and Himanshu studies,” he said.
A doctor who examined Rahul’s report said the boy needed a post-operative operation and treatment.
“In such cases, patients need constant care and support,” he said.
