BENGALURU: Officials from an e-commerce major have filed a police complaint against a delivery agent and his associate for cheating the company to the tune of Rs 3.7 lakh by returning 18 fake iPads after falsely claiming that customers gave them back.
The accused are Nanda Kumar and his associate Chetan, residents of RR Nagar.
Kumar, who worked as a delivery agent with the ecommerce major, was assigned the job of dispatching goods booked online.
The company’s office is located in Pattanagere near Kengeri.
According to police, the accused duo returned 18 iPads to the firm, over a few months, saying customers had returned them.
On inspecting, the firm officials found that the 18 iPads were duplicate sets and further enquiry revealed they were ordered by a single person in different names.
According to the complaint filed by an official of the company, Kumar took the original iPads outside for dispatching.
When the same were returned, they were replaced by fake ones.
“It looks like Nanda Kumar and his associate Chetan, in whose names the 18 iPads were booked and returned later, cheated us by returning the fake ones and keeping the original ones,” it said.
Initially, the case was registered with RR Nagar police.
Owing to jurisdictional issue, it was transferred to Kengeri police station.
“The matter is under investigation.
We have asked for documents of the 18 iPads and will soon summon the suspects for questioning,” an investigating officer said.
