Bengaluru: While research recently marked Bengaluru as the top multilingual center in this country, history has it that the city, even in the early 18th century, was known for the existence of people who spoke varying.
The researchers remembered that after the defeat of the Sultan by Britain in the fourth Anglo-Mysore War, Europeans arrived to find Bengaluru’s house for a large number of Tamil, Telugu, Urdu, and even Marathi, regardless of Kannada.
“Bengaluru always became a beautiful multibuistic society with people who settled from the neighboring regions of Tamil and the Maratha invasion that brought the people who spoke Marathi too.
Very diverse cities since the beginning of the 18th century, Bengaluru traditionally welcomed people The person who came, “said Harini Nagendra, a researcher and sustainability professor at the University of Azim Premi.
Migration to the city for years Strengthens Bengaluru’s multilingual tags.
Meanwhile is the first trader, now the IT sector attracts hundreds to Garden City.
But some like Rajeev Kumaramkandath from the Department of Sociology and Social Work in Christ (considered university) argue that the cosmopolitan nature is only limited to Urban Bengaluru.
“There is a delicate linguistic and ethnic mixture in Bengaluru, which is very unique in Karnataka.
Historically, the migration of people who speak tongues has been caused by various reasons such as garment trade, but in the past two decades it was caused by the IT industry,” said Kumaramkandath.
But academics say there is a need to focus on Kannada and promote it.
“It is good that the city has a multilingual mixture, but it is important to focus on mother tongue,” he added.
