Bengaluru: Driving against those who move in public places without wearing masks have raised a short reaction, but there is a positive side for that: the hard action helps the authorities in breaking the Covid-19 transmission chain.
“We hope they are punished by Marshal we do not repeat the mistake again; they will become more careful in public places and use masks,” said a senior BBMP official.
Those who were caught do not wear a mask responsible for paying the RS 250 penalty.
According to the data compiled by BBMP, around 3.9 lakh people were punished for not wearing masks in 2021 and well collected to add Rs 9.5 Crore.
The highest collection was in January with 67,615 people punished followed by February (36,887).
The number of people was most punished in June (5.092) and May (7,545).
BBMP has represented 240 Marshal to ensure guidelines followed.
Marshal focuses on apartments, markets, shopping complexes, hotels, bus stops and other places to enforce mask rules.
Although the priority is to create awareness about the importance of masks after the first wave, Marshal goes after violators when self-satisfaction among the public after vaccination.
The head of the Marshal Colonel Rajbhir Singh (retirees) said that with an increase in cases during the second wave, people became more alert and followed the Covid-19 protocol.
In February 2021, the offenders decreased by 50% (the number was 36,887) and immediately dropped to 7,545 in May and 5,092 in June.
“With kuncian easing, the number of violators rises.
People tend to be satisfied, which again leads to a surge in the case,” he said.
“In Bengaluru, Levying Penalty to social distance is challenging.
There are so many opportunities where people gather,” he added.
