Mumbai: Given the increasing protest by Worli fishermen to the BMC coastal project, the Civic body earlier this month decided to compensate for fishermen for the interim period.
Worli is also the constituency of Minister of Environment Minister Aaditya Thackeray.
A senior BMC official said, “BMC held a meeting with fishermen representatives on November 1 and took into account their concerns.
They have assured that every loss during construction will be compensated.” The decision on how much compensation to be given has not been decided, said citizenship officials.
The Tata Social Sciences Institute has been appointed by BMC to develop compensation policies.
The BMC working group has also been formed and many of his meetings were held with fishermen.
Nitish Patil from Worli Koliwada Nakhwa Matsya Vyavsay Sahakari Society Limited said that they did fulfill the authenticity of the citizenship concerned on November 1 for their problems, but compensation once will not be enough.
“Reclamation in our area affects the fish we can catch on the beach.
They barely come to Worli beach and now more towards Khar Danda, Mahim Waters,” Patil said.
Regarding worries about inadequate navigation ranges from the coastal road bridge to pass the ship, the Civic body said according to permissions received by their respective authorities.
