Mumbai: BMC will be on Friday the first-energy-to-energy factory commission in Haji Ali, which will change two metric tons of wet waste to 300 units of electricity per day.
The power produced at the 95-lakh RS plant will be used for street lighting and local park lighting.
“Two metric tons per day Bio-methanized-waste-to-energy generation has been installed in the space left behind the city of Chowky and toilet in Haji Ali.
This will produce 300 electrical units that will be used for street lights and lighting at Khade Church Marg Garden, “said Commissioner of the Kotamadya D-Ward Gaiikwad.
TimesViewIt is a good decision by BMC to regulate waste plant to energy at the environmental level.
If this plant is successful and can produce electricity consistently, BMC must establish more units such as the environmental level.
Quantum waste sent to the disposal site will decrease and BMC will also save electricity.
Like this plant in Haji Ali, BMC must overcome more CSR funds for such eco-friendly projects.
“D Ward produces around 200 metric tons of waste every day.
We hope to be scientifically able to change most of these waste at the environmental level, gradually, to reduce the burden on the disposal site,” said Gaikwad.
“The Haji Ali plant will need around 2,000 liters of water per day to process two tons of wet waste metrics.” D Ward includes areas in Tardeo, Giragaum, Walkeshwar, Hill Malabar and Altamont Road.
The factory, which is fully established through the corporate social responsibility fund, will be inaugurated by the Minister of Environment Aaditya Thackeray on Friday.
Bio-methanized factories can treat more than 2mt / mixed organic waste days and produce electricity from biogas.
“Biological methanization is a conversion process to produce methane through very specialized microorganisms (Archaea) in the technical system.
Wet waste is sent to the mother digester plant through a conveyor belt.
This will undergo hydrolysis, asidogenesis, acetogenesis and methane methanogenesis and methane, one of the light gases .
Digester is connected to a balloon room where the gas is stored, “explained an official, asking for anonymity.
Mumbai produces 7,000-8,000 metric tons of garbage every day.
BMC sent solid waste to a disposal site in Deonar and Kanjurmarg; It has started the scientific closure of the dumping mulund land.
In January, BMC had called for an expression of interests for the second-to-energy waste plant in Dumping Deonar even as work on the first plant, worth 1,100 crore, it had not taken off despite the Civil Stand Committee approval in November 2020.
This factory will process 600 metric tons of garbage every day and produce energy for sale in the open market.
