BMC plans a 12k polling room for civil elections

Mumbai: As part of his preparation for the BMC selection scheduled for February next year, BMC will add around 4,000 polling booths to keep the covid-19 pandemic in mind.
At present there are around 7,900 booths, which may need to be increased by BMC to around 12,000.
Every booth is known to have 1,400-1,500 voters now, but will only have around 800 voters for the February 2022 poll this year, the State Election Commission (SEC) gave BMC ahead for civilian polls as scheduled for February 2022 and requested BMC to start preparations for elections that remember the Covid-19 protocol.
“We cut the detailed plan to conduct BMC selections considering the pandemic.
We will increase the number of booths and create awareness campaigns to improve the voter list.
Our current focus is ensuring no discomfort for voters,” said Suresh Kakani, an additional Municipal commissioner.
SEC asked BMC to start working on restrictions on the election environment or repeated ward reprores in 2017.
Because there was no new census data after the 2011 census is currently available to do full restriction exercises, the possibility that only the repair process will be done.
The SEC has also asked BMC to prepare a new voter list based on the voter list for the 2019 State Assembly selection.
“We will try and vacate all the staff in the polling booth and on the task of polls.
We have also been asked to ensure the appropriate Covid norms are followed when making Settings, “said the official.
Last time, before the 2017 BMC election, on October 3, 2016, the Lottery for orders was held for 227 wards and restrictions on the environment was officially announced.
While 50% of seats are reserved for female candidates, from 50% there are also reservations in the SC, ST and OBC category among female candidates.
The SEC has said that the draft boundaries of electoral environments in Mumbai for the upcoming BMC polls will be published and suggestions and objections will be called before they are finished.
The SEC told Congress in a written response that the limits of the final environment would be published after considering suggestions and objections.
