Mumbai: The Bombay High Court on Wednesday concluded the trial in a petition that challenged the country’s decision to “arbitrarily” increased by nine seats in the upcoming BMC selection.
Advocate General Ashutosh Kumbhakoni in his submission before Judge Amjad Sayed and Abhay Ahuja through video conferencing said the state was justified as an increase of 3.87 percent in 2001 to 2011, it was the task to increase the total number of city council members proportionally.
Senior Virendra Tulzapurkar and Nikhil Sakhardande advice for Aplician Abhijit Samant and Rajashree Shirwadkar proposed that the challenge was to regulate November 30, 2021, changing part 5 of the MMC actions which where the number of city council members increased from 227 to 236.
The challenge was based on the reason that arbitrary and arbitrarious increases were sufficient to grow laws.
The number of city council members was based on the 2011 population census.
But the Petitioners said the population changes from 2001 to 2011 were considered and had been followed up before the 2017 election.
Because Covid-19, the 2021 census was postponed.
This increase was also “irrational”, “in that case, when there was an increase in the population of Mumbai from 1991 to 2001 by 22.1 percent, the number of board members increased 6 (from 221 to 227) (increased in the number of council members 2.7 percent ).
While when a population increase from 2001 to 2011 was just 3.87 percent, the number of board members increased 9 (from 227 to 236) (increased in the number of board members by 3.96 percent).
