MUMBAI: Using Covid-19 cases falling drastically from town along with the amount of beds empty rising, the BMC has put on hold its plan to construct a brand new widescreen Covid center at Mahalaxmi Race Course.
Even though the BMC had floated tenders to the centre, it seemed for Business Social Responsibility (CSR) funding for your job also.
But, corporates discovered the center too costly.
After dismantling the 900-bed jumbo Covid center at Mahalaxmi Race Course without declaring even one individual in the center, the BMC was about to construct a new one in exactly the identical site.
While the previous center was constructed using CSR funding, the BMC had intended to invest approximately Rs 45 crore about the brand new facility for 200 ICU bedrooms, 250 oxygen bedrooms plus a triage area.
Three firms had volunteered to construct the center and had engaged in the tenders.
But officials said that there was price escalation throughout the bids.
“The program hasn’t yet been dropped but only kept on hold for the time.
Additionally, because the breaking is large, it can not be achieved below CSR,” stated Sanjeev Jaiswal, further municipal commissioner (Town ).
The BMC was facing flak from the competition to get poor preparation and needing to shell out Rs 45 crore to get a new facility in exactly the identical place it dismantled only half an hour ago.
The Mahalaxmi Covid centre constructed from the Naman Group has been passed on to the BMC at July 2020, but also the center remained unutilised.
BJP corporator Vinod Mishra said closing down the center has been a waste of public money.
“Even if it has been CSR capital, it had been cash intended for the general public.
This demonstrates lack of planning and inadequate coordination from the BMC.
From the time that the new facility is prepared, it might not be required ,” Mishra said.
