BHUBANESWAR: The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has set a target of inoculating 28,000 people in a day to saturate the eligible population of 8.5 lakh with both doses of vaccine as soon as possible.
The city has been reporting around 500 coronavirus cases on a daily basis.
On Saturday, apart from the regular sites for Covid vaccination, the civic body fixed additional schedule to inoculate around 600 staff members of Odisha Computer Application Centre (OCAC), 600 employees from the hotel association, 40 delivery boys from food aggregators and 450 staff and students of IIT Bhubaneswar.
All of them received their first dose of vaccine.
On Friday, the BMC had inoculated 22,002 (both doses) people, among whom 14,804 belonged to the 18-44 age group and 5,070 in the 45-plus age group besides 2,128 who had come for drive-in vaccination.
So far in the city, 3,46,218 people have been fully vaccinated out of which 2,371 doses have been administered at private facilities.
Abhisekh Pandey, a student of IIT, Bhubaneswar said, “The vaccination exercise was very smooth.
We all had got slots at the primary health centre in Nayapalli.
Our institution had approached the BMC for a special drive and it was well organised.” The city on Saturday reported 439 fresh cases against 881 recoveries, bringing down the active positive cases to 5,088.
The city’s Covid death toll reached 377 and cumulative case count went up to 83,609.
