Berlin: BMW has sold one million (EV) electric vehicles and plans to reach two million EV sales in 2025, the German car maker said on Tuesday.
About 70% of the EV sold so far is a hybrid, a member of the Pieter Council, said in a round table with journalists, adding that the company believes the hybrid model will continue to play an important role especially for customers without access to chargers.
Continuing to modernize the fossil fuel burning car is another important step to make the industry more sustainable, he said: “Only so we can make a difference throughout the customer base.” BMW has long been established to invest in various technologies rather than focusing purely on electric battery cars to reduce emissions, and oppose the flat-out ban on the purchase of burning machine cars.
Car makers aim for at least 50% of global sales to fully electricity in 2030, but have repeated many opportunities that less filling infrastructure is a major barrier for absorption of electric vehicles faster.
Sales in November were slightly below last year’s level, the Note said, because the lack of chips continued to limit supply.
However, the company remains convinced that it will see absolute revenue growth compared to last year, he said.
