Mangaluru: Dilapidated school building from 1932 still serves as a learning institution for 132 higher primary students while the game blamed is about funds for new buildings.
Higher government elementary school is in Kodapadavu, vittalpadnur, below the border of Bantwal Beo.
In 2016, Bantal Beo has ordered the destruction of the building and construction of new classrooms.
However, after five years, students continue to attend classes in the same building about collapsing.
The School Development and Monitoring Committee (SDMC) of the President, Umar Farooq, said that RS 21.20 Lakh which was released from the Department of Public Works in 2018 for construction was diverted to other schools.
Farooq told Tii that currently the school only has four classrooms, from both in a dilapidated building to accommodate 132 children from class I to VIII.
The rest of the children are taught in a 15-year-old new block that has two classrooms.
One classroom is divided into three to accommodate class I III.
Two other classes are held in the open.
“We are doing classes in a dilapidated building because there is no other way,” said Farooq.
In 2016, the Beo of Bantwal ordered the demolition and the construction of two new classrooms estimated costs at RS 32 Lakh.
In 2018, PWD gave sanctions RS 21.20 lakh for construction.
“The funds were transferred to other schools in Kanyana.
We need at least six good classrooms to run school.
Members of the school SDMC have run from the pillar to the post but officials have not considered our request.” The villagers showed that they had made home visits for increase acceptance at school.
“It worked, we have received a good entrance ticket and now we fight for classrooms.
The government must immediately step up to build classrooms to maintain students.
Parents can eliminate their children from school next year because of fear,” said a resident village.
When Tii contacted Jnanesh MP, Beo, Bantwal, he said there was a proposal to provide three classroom sanctions for school.
The funds were postponed because of the pandemic and even the school had not discussed this issue to PEO.
