Brasilia: Covid-Unvcinated President Brazil Jair Bolsonaro said on Thursday that he would attend the UN Conference next week in New York, effectively opposed the city authorities who recently announced vaccination requirements and diplomats attending all.
“Next week I will be in the UN General Assembly (UNGA), where I will give opening speeches” on Tuesday, the President said during social media broadcasts.
This will be a “calm, very objective speech, focusing on the problem that is interesting for us,” added Bolsonaro, who said it would discuss the Brazilian approach to the Coronavirus pandemic, agricultural business, and energy.
On Wednesday, the Mayor’s New York office wrote to Unga put the guidelines, including delegates must show evidence of vaccination to enter the debate hall – a step that raises questions about participation in Bolsonaro.
The letter signed by the New York City Health Commissioner said the United Nations Debate Hall was classified as a “convention center,” which means all participants must be vaccinated, just like other people participating in some indoor activities in the city.
A few hours later UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres said he could not impose the requirements in the Head of Bolsonaro State, who had a virus last year, said he would be the “last Brazil” to get vaccination.
Brazil, with a population of 213 million, rank fourth worldwide in the number of vaccine doses given, according to our world research group in the data.
But the president has now refused to get a chance, claiming that he has been immunized because his antibody level remains “above.”
