The library book was finally returned to the Newcastle library, around 63 years late! The book that should be returned at the Fenham Library Way on November 25, 1958 was sent to the Newcastle Central Library this year, BBC reported.
The returned book is a copy of the first edition of ‘how to lie with statistics’ by Darrell Huff.
Although it is not known who returns the book, it was sent along with a reading note “better than never !!”.
David Hepworth, the library manager, said, according to the BBC, that who returned “might have been worried about us sending them bills” as a fine for late refunds and maybe that’s why the person did not reveal their identity.
However, fine has been suspended because of a pandemic so that people can avoid unnecessary trips to the library.
“It’s been happy to have this book back, we are also happy that it triggers a little interest and people talk about the library and read,” Hepworth said, the BBC reported.
He further said that they wanted to hear from the person who returned the book so that their in-house publishing company named Tyne Bridge could offer several books to appreciate their wise work.
Isn’t that extraordinary cue?
