Boost in Online Tax Revenue Spurs Corp to Target 100 Cr

Thiruvananthapuram: Driven by a sudden increase in property tax collection, Civic’s body targets Rs 100 Crore as this fiscal collection.
Given the collection record in the past, the target looked like a pie in the sky for the civil body.
However, officials are optimistic.
The corporation has an annual RS 90 Crore request and collects 70-80% every year.
Corporate Secretary issued a circular to the income staff that included a variety of ongoing steps to reach the RS 100 Crore target.
The Civic body has begun updating the list of taxes every month.
In addition, the action was taken in connection with the submission of a statement in a tax-related legal case that had dragged for years.
One important step was taken in identifying all cellphone towers in the city and it was found that taxes were collected from only 217 towers from a total of 431.
The corporation had estimated that by collecting taxes on retrospective effects of up to four years, three times the amount of tax can be collected from the cellular tower.
It is expected to produce an additional income corporation of Rs 2.5 Crore.
City Corporation’s revenue wing has identified more than 700 absenteeism that owes tax contributions above RS 1 Lakh.
The cumulative contribution of this defaulter is estimated to reach Rs 44 Crore.
In the past two months, City Corporation managed to collect around RS 17 Crore after a tax database update in all environments.
In 2020-21, the total demand for City Corporation in property taxes is Rs 96.8 Crore and the corporation can collect Rs 75.8 Crores which is the highest collection of property taxes since 2016-17.
The corporation has not passed RS 70 Crore in the collection in the last five fiscals.
Significant signs of a significant increase in online tax payments proven from November 2021.
This month has recorded a collection of Rs 9.75 Crore which is more than double the number of corporations that have been collected in the same month in 2020.

Ten other units under the Government Secretariat also recorded contributions around Rs 20 Lakh in the last five fiscal.
The Development Authority of Talluvananthapuram Talluvananthapuram looks right seems to be top of the defaulter tax list.
Trida contributions for corporations for one building in Pallayam are Rs 1.58 Crore.
About 295 units under Trida owe company tax contributions between RS 10,000 – RS 3 Lakh.
Nearly 100 buildings owned by the Development Authority of Thiruvananthapuram owe company tax contributions well more than Rs 10 lakh when trida is a revival of tax contributions in accordance with the medical list of colleges.
